James Wyld, the founder of the company and former business partner of Messrs Paterson & Co, established his whisky business at the Port of Leith, Edinburgh, in 1801. Operating under the trade name James Wyld & Co., he sold a wide range of goods, including hemp, lard, oil, wines, and spirits. Later, he moved the business to Tolbooth Wynd and settled with his family at Bonnington Bank, near the site of the current distillery.
In 1817, James Wyld was appointed to the Committee of Brewers, Wine, and Spirit Merchants, and in 1836 he sold the business to John Crabbie and William Cree, who operated under the name **Crabbie & Cree** — the predecessor of **John Crabbie & Co.**
This is a single malt Scotch whisky produced in the **Lowlands** region.
